Design ideas is now available in Microsoft SharePoint

As someone who loves working with Microsoft SharePoint, I’m excited to share a new feature that will make your pages look even better – Design Ideas. Whether you’re creating a visually appealing section with text or images, this update brings a range of new design options to help you polish your SharePoint pages effortlessly.

Now available for all users, both in targeted release and general availability, Design Ideas automatically suggests new layouts, background choices, and formatting options for your page sections. The best part? There’s no admin setup required – it’s already live!

What does this mean for you?

SharePoint page authors can now spruce up their sections with minimal effort. Imagine clicking into a text or image webpart and receiving instant layout recommendations to enhance your content. For example, if you’re working on a blank text webpart, Design Ideas will suggest formatting options to help you get started. As you add more content, the feature smartly adapts, offering suggestions like image webparts, background colors, and text styles that fit the tone and structure of your content.

When you first start editing a page, you’ll notice a red dot in the Design Ideas panel, alerting you that there are suggestions available. Simply open the panel and select the design options that suit your section. It’s as easy as that!

What’s included in this initial release?

For now, Design Ideas supports sections containing the following:

  • 1 banner webpart
  • 1, 2, or 3 text webparts
  • 1, 2, or 3 text and image webparts
  • 1 blank text webpart

Whether you’re working on a single banner or a multi-column layout, the feature provides various enhancements that can improve the visual appeal and readability of your content.

What should you do next?

There’s no setup required from your admin team, but it’s a good idea to notify your colleagues and update any internal documentation. Encourage your users to explore the feature and take advantage of the design recommendations – it could save them time and make their SharePoint pages stand out.

I’m excited to see how Design Ideas will inspire new ways to present information on SharePoint. What will you create next?
